The Place:
Swing and a miss, strike one. While the list has familiarized us with the full gamut of restaurants, from 5 star establishments to hole in the wall joints, when you walk into a place and get slapped in the face by the overwhelming smell of wet dog, it tends to cloud your judgement (*editor’s note* upon investigating their Yelp reviews, we found that they make their own fish sauce in house, hence the smell, though we didn’t know that at the time). Sai Jai Thai doesn’t win any awards on decor or odor but as slaves to The List, we pressed on.
The Dish:
Swing and a miss, strike two (and you only get two strikes in this game). The Pork Shoulder Fried Rice gets a resounding “meh” from both of us. There is nothing that stands out about it for us. While the meat is tender, it lacks flavor and could have been substituted for some other protein easily. The rice was kinda bland and seemed like something that we could easily make better at home. The chili fish sauce that came on the side helped a little, but didn’t go far enough to rescue this dish in our minds. With such a basic dish we expected more and were a little disappointed.
The Verdict:
Unfortunately this is a pass for us. This is the first case of The List giving us a dud. The combination of the smell of the establishment and the mediocre taste of the food left us underwhelmed and unsatisfied. However, ’tis the plight and pain of the brave food blogger and we struggle on, blazing the path to your culinary enlightenment (okay, that last sentence was a bit much).
