The holidays are always fun yet usually pretty busy. Having put that thought in your head, we are going to use that as an excuse for our lack of posts recently (it’s not laziness, we swear…..ok, it’s slight laziness but that’s going to be one of our New Year’s resolutions).
Over the weekend we did have a very nice culinary experience. It happened to be Kristina’s bday, so we decided to hop over to Angel Island for a little hiking, biking and eating. The day was perfect for an outdoor excursion, around 65 degrees and sunny. The island is just a short ferry ride away, and we highly suggest it for any eager daytrippers in the bay area. We spent the day riding bikes around and just enjoying the scenery of this beautiful National Historic Landmark.
After finding some truly beautiful spots, we felt our hunger growing. Ready for some treats and relaxation we found a perfect lookout to breakout our spread. Being the savvy food lovers we are, we had shopped functionally and decadently for our meal. Our spread consisted of some crusty Italian bread and garlic roasted water crackers as the vessels for our goodies. A triple cream brie, aged cheddar w/ shallots and Spanish cheddar for our spread (along w/ some garlic hummus). For our veggies we had marinated olives, mushrooms, artichoke hearts and peppers. Animal protein was covered by pepper encrusted and smoked salmon, prosciutto, Genoa salami and bresaola. Dessert was a variety of ridiculously moist Sift cupcakes, and all of the above was accompanied by a nice bottle of Domaine Michelle sparkling wine!
Pair all of this an amazing view of San Francisco and the Golden Gate bridge and you have the recipe for a magical day. The food was delicious (and probably too much), the scenery was picturesque and the company couldn’t be beat. We highly recommend getting away from it all once in a while, just make sure that you bring some tasty bites along for the ride.
